PI IP LAW is pleased to announce that Daeho Lee, Managing Partner, will participate as a panel speaker in the inaugural session of the Global Forum on IP and AI, hosted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) at its headquarters in Geneva on November 9–10, 2026.
The Global Forum on IP and AI succeeds the WIPO Conversation on IP and AI, which ran for twelve sessions from 2019, and provides a standing platform for member states, industry, academia and the creative community to shape the direction of intellectual property policy in the age of AI. The first session is expected to draw more than 1,500 participants from around the world and will feature opening remarks by WIPO Director General Daren Tang, ministerial-level addresses, a super session revisiting the first principles of the IP system, and a session with heads of major IP offices.
Lee will speak on the panel “The IP in the Machine – Untangling IP Issues Behind the Models” on November 10. The session starts from the observation that debates over copyright in training data and over patent and other protection for AI models have largely proceeded on separate tracks, and explores how choices concerning training inputs, model protection, open-source, open-weight and closed approaches, and real-world applications interact – and how IP policy decisions in one area can have consequences across the wider IP ecosystem.
Lee previously spoke at the sixth session of the WIPO Conversation on IP and Frontier Technologies (AI Inventions) in September 2022, on the panel “Through the Looking Glass – IP Professionals and Attorneys’ Views”, addressing practical patent issues arising from AI inventions. At this year’s Forum he will bring a practitioner’s perspective drawing on Korean AI and software patent practice, Korean unfair competition case law, and the firm’s own experience in building and operating AI agents.
We welcome the attention of in-house IP professionals and industry stakeholders interested in the intersection of AI and intellectual property.
