Jaehyun is a trademark expert who served as the chief judge at the Korean Intellectual Property Office. After passing the 31st Korea National Open Competitive Examination for Grade 5, Jaehyun handled more than 3,000 trademark cases while serving as an examiner, trial examiner, presiding trial judge and chief judge at the Korean Intellectual Property Office for 28 years.
During the years of serving as an intellectual property attaché (counselor) at Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea in Geneva, Chief of the International Cooperation Department, Dean of the International Intellectual Property Training Institute and Head of the International Cooperation and Customer Support Bureau at WIPO, Jaehyun has accumulated extensive international expertise in intellectual property. Jaehyun further took on the Chairman position at World Intellectual Property Organization(WIPO)’s Program and Budget Committee for 2 years.
Jaehyun graduated from Sungkyunkwan University, received a Ph.D. in Intellectual Property Law at Chungnam National University, and completed the Intellectual Property Law LLM courses at Queen Mary University of London. After retiring from the Korean Intellectual Property Office, Jaehyun taught at Kyung Hee University for 3 and a half years as a professor of intellectual property.
At PI IP LAW, Jaehyun will be leading the firm’s trademark and design practice with Daeho.
