Gunhong Park, Founding Partner of PI IP LAW, has joined the advisory committee tasked with revising the "Examination Guidelines for Computer Program and Business Method (BM) Inventions" led by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO).
The advisory committee has been established to help clarify and refine patent examination standards for software and BM inventions in response to the rapidly evolving technological landscape.
In particular, the revision and development of these guidelines will focus not only on clarifying the scope of patent protection for software inventions but also on establishing specific criteria for assessing the patentability of technologies utilizing generative AI and inventions integrating AI into existing industries—areas of growing interest and concern among businesses.
Drawing on his extensive practical experience working with clients in the fields of artificial intelligence, software, and information and communications technology (ICT), Mr. Park plans to share with the advisory committee the challenges encountered during the patent application process and the perspectives of patent applicants. Through his participation, he aims to contribute to the development of more comprehensive examination guidelines that closely reflect actual patent prosecution practices.
Building on Mr. Park's participation in the advisory committee, PI IP LAW will continue to stay ahead of rapidly evolving technological trends and changes in the patent system. We remain committed to being a trusted partner, protecting the valuable innovations our clients have worked hard to develop and providing effective strategies for securing intellectual property rights.
