The overall processing time from first filing to registration is approximately 10 to 12 months in the case of a smooth registration procedure. This is when no grounds of rejection are found during the examination period of the application and no objections arise during the two-month opposition period.
However, depending on the complexity of the case, the period may vary considerably. If the Office finds grounds of rejection, or disputes arise and the applicant decides to appeal to the Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board, the registration process can be greatly extended.
If you wish to avoid a long and expensive registration process, check our recommendations to undergo a short and cost-effective application.
